Will you tell us a story? Tips for little writers

1.4K

A story is a text that explains a tale through its main characters with a sudden final ending. There are all types: of exploration, discovery, to split your sides with laughter, to weep inconsolably, to frighten… When children write their first lines or mini story, they move a step ahead in their development and growth. They learn to reflect, put their ideas in order and ask themselves questions on concrete things.

All you have to do to write a story is find a theme you like best and start the ball rolling. Test your creativity and let your imagination fly you to a different time or convert you into somebody else. You can write a story that is as good or better than those written by adults. All you need to do is get all your senses going!

We are aware that new technologies are changing our lives and that we are reading and writing less and less. Computers and tablets have been very beneficial and have made a lot of tasks easier, but we do not want to quit reading and writing. They are a very important source of learning that help us express our feelings, escape from the world and, above all, master new things.

Letting your fantasy run wild is the best exercise for developing a story that holds you in its grip and which you never want to end. Experience it from within and feel what each character is thinking for it to be as believable as possible.

The following are some essential tips for you to become an expert in the creation of stories:

  • Theme: The first thing you must do is choose a subject. It can be a fantasy or some anecdote that happened to you. You can even think of historical facts and turn them over.
  • Place: You must also consider the place in which the story will come to pass. In a city, the countryside, a castle…
  • Characters: After you have defined the type of story, you must create the characters that will be its protagonists. You will also have to decide what to call them and what their personalities will be like.
  • Events: You must have a clear idea of all the episodes that will unfold during the story as well as its conclusion. It must be well structured and you must know what details you wish to include so that there is a clear order.
  • Title: Once you have decided on a theme, the characters and events, you must create a title that is coherent with what you are explaining.
  • When you finish, let it rest: When you have finished your story, do not read it until two or three days have gone by. After this period, read it again to correct things you feel don’t quite fit or to check for spelling mistakes.
  • Share it: When it is completely done, show it to your parents, grandparents, sister, brother… they will give you their opinion and help you improve in your next literary endeavour.

Were our recommendations useful? We hope so, and urge you to become a great little writer! Remember that everything goes and all things are possible in a story.  Your imagination can do as it pleases and reach unimaginable stretches. It is bound to be an unforgettable and exciting experience. There is nothing as splendid as dreaming and imagining.
